The Reserva Especial was La Flor Dominicana's sophomore release and the result of the most important decision made within the company's history: the purchase of their own farm to grow their own tobacco. The cigar boom of the '90s made it increasingly difficult for a small company to acquire the robust tobaccos they sought; most available options were leftovers from larger, more established brands.

The only option La Flor Dominicana had was to grow their own tobacco, which led to a game-changing approach. This allowed them to completely transform the style of cigars from the traditionally mild flavor profile the Dominican Republic was known for to more powerful and flavorful cigars like the Reserva Especial, Ligero, Double Ligero, and various other blends celebrated for their extraordinary character, power, and flavor.
