Hoyo de Monterrey finds its origin in the town of San Juan y Martínez, situated in the heart of Cuba’s famed Vuelta Abajo region. This area is home to the Hoyo de Monterrey plantation, recognised as one of the great Vegas de Primera. The plantation can be accessed through a gate in the town’s main square, which bears the inscription “Hoyo de Monterrey. Jose Gener. 1860.”

The name “Hoyo”, meaning “hole”, reflects the plantation’s low-lying location along the fertile banks of the San Juan y Martínez river. In 1865, José Gener, a Spaniard from Tarragona, adopted the name of his plantation for his brand of Habanos, marking the beginning of a distinguished legacy.

Hoyo de Monterrey cigars are noted for their subtle yet refined character. The blend offers a light, aromatic profile that is both elegant and complex, appealing to those who prefer a more delicate smoking experience without compromising on depth.

In 2005, Hoyo de Monterrey became the first brand to release a Petit Robusto. With a broad 50 ring gauge and a shorter length, this vitola suits those who enjoy a substantial format but may not always have the time for a longer smoke.
