The term "Hoyo," meaning "hole," aptly describes the plantation’s low-lying position along the fertile banks of the San Juan y Martínez river. In 1865, José Gener, a Spaniard from Tarragona, established the brand, naming it after his vega, and it has since become a hallmark of Cuban craftsmanship.
