The name "Hoyo," meaning "hole," reflects the plantation's low-lying position on the fertile banks of the San Juan y Martínez river. In 1865, José Gener, a Spaniard from Tarragona, chose to name his brand after his plantation, creating a lasting legacy in the world of Habanos.
