Hoyo de Monterrey takes its name from the town of San Juan y Martínez, set in the heart of Cuba’s esteemed Vuelta Abajo region. This area is home to the Hoyo de Monterrey plantation, recognised as one of the great Vegas de Primera. The plantation’s entrance is found in the town’s main square, marked by the inscription “Hoyo de Monterrey. Jose Gener. 1860.”
The word “Hoyo”, meaning “hole”, refers to the plantation’s position in a low-lying area along the fertile banks of the San Juan y Martínez river. In 1865, José Gener, a Spaniard from Tarragona, used the name of his plantation to create a cigar brand that has become a benchmark for refinement and tradition.
Hoyo de Monterrey cigars are renowned for their light yet aromatic character, offering a delicately balanced blend with elegance and complexity. This makes them an appealing choice for those who prefer a more subtle, nuanced smoking experience.
The Coronas Gordas vitola offers a well-proportioned format that delivers depth of flavour without an extended smoking time. It is perfectly suited to those seeking a classic size with a refined profile.
