Hoyo de Monterrey has its roots in the town of San Juan y Martínez, located at the heart of Cuba’s acclaimed Vuelta Abajo region. This area is home to the Hoyo de Monterrey plantation, one of the celebrated Vegas de Primera, which can be found through a gate in the town’s main square bearing the inscription “Hoyo de Monterrey. Jose Gener. 1860.”

The word “Hoyo”, meaning “hole”, refers to the plantation’s position in a low-lying area along the fertile banks of the San Juan y Martínez river. José Gener, a Spaniard from Tarragona, first used the name of his plantation for a brand of Habanos in 1865, establishing a legacy that continues to define the brand’s reputation.

Hoyo de Monterrey cigars are known for their refined flavour profile. The blend offers a delicate yet aromatic experience, appealing to those who prefer a lighter smoke with notable complexity and elegance.

In 2005, Hoyo de Monterrey became the first brand to introduce the Petit Robusto format. With a robust 50 ring gauge and a shorter length, it caters to those who enjoy a fuller-bodied cigar shape but prefer a quicker, more convenient smoke.
